Inclusion Implementation:
Inclusion implemented in this building by mainstreaming students when possible, and using a resource room only when necessary in the building. Some students are in the general classrooms all or majority of the time with the assistance of aide in the room when necessary. Others students are in the general education classrooms for part of the day, and the rest of the time in the resource room. Some students are only struggling in one content area, so they are in the room for a more limited amount of time. The other professionals in the building typically react to the aides and resource room teacher with full support. Occasionally, a few general education teachers do their own thing, and neglect consulting the special education teachers and aides. In addition to the lack of communication, sometimes general education teachers can be openly aggravated with students with disabilities. Fortunately, this negative display doesn’t happen all too often. Usually, the teachers work toward common goals and individual goals, and consider the best options to pursue relating to each individual. The students seem to adapt to general education classes, but function much better with the support of the resource room teacher and the aide. Their assistance increases the learning and success of their students with disabilities.
